The short answer
Arrange six matching outdoor up-and-down sconces in a three-by-two grid. Use warm 2700K light so the beams overlap into diamonds. Choose solar or rechargeable fixtures for DIY; hire an electrician for hardwired lights.
How to do it
Tape up six templates—three across and two high. Level the grid; start 30 to 42 inches apart. Test one light after dark before mounting the set.
Use wet-rated fixtures and keep every beam on your wall.

Kelvin Tells You the Color, Not the Brightness
The 2700K printed on a light does not tell you how bright it will be. Kelvin is used here to describe correlated color temperature: lower numbers look warmer and more amber, while higher numbers look cooler and bluer. Brightness is a separate specification, usually described with lumens for the light a fixture emits and lux for the light that reaches a surface. Two outdoor sconces can therefore both be 2700K and still create very different amounts of glow on a backyard wall.
